This has been on my list FOREVER! I have a slight obsession with hot air balloons. A few years ago I stumbled across the Citrus Classic. Adam loved going to Hot Air Balloon Festivals as a kid but I had never been so I planned a surprise adventure and got major points. But who’s keeping track? 😉 We both turned into little kids running around, freaking out about how cool the balloons are. The best part is they let you walk right up to them and really see how it all works. It was pure magic and we vowed to plan our year around going. The next year we took D & I and it was probably my most favorite day with them ever. We were all completely giddy. The best part is at dusk they use this special fuel that makes the balloons glow. It is so beautiful!
This past year they cancelled it and I was super sad. Fortunately a family recently told me about this place in Irvine called The Great Park Balloon. I have been dying to go! It was such a beautiful day–BUT a little on the windy side so they cancelled flights for the day. I was a totally bummed for a minute but the park was absolutely worth the venture and we will definitely be back again. They have a beautiful old school carousel and pump pop tunes. ($3 for an all day pass so we definitely rode on every single animal!) There is an aviation museum, creative arts studio and an absolutely lovely park for picnicking and playing.
The balloon ride is $10 for adults and kids are free with an adult ticket. Next time! They also have a farm that I really want to check out when we come back. They told us Sunday mornings are the best time to come because there is usually no wait and there is little wind first thing in the morning. Plus there is a farmers market so you can have lunch there too. Sounds like the perfect Sunday to me! Here are our pics. Sorry there are SO many. I had a hard time picking my favorites! I also got the kids disposable cameras to take their own pictures. I can’t wait to get them back!
