Saturday we were poised for adventure. We headed to Kidspace to see check out the new expanded Arroyo and stumbled upon the duck races. What luck!
We were thrilled, quickly signed up for the next race and got busy outfitting our ducks. They had markers and tons of tattoos to decorate our prized winning duck derby hopefuls. This is Tickleberry named after her best friend and lovey and Drake’s named his after me. (Heart melted.)They spent a long time deciding what should be on the tail as this obviously would be a big factor in their duck’s speed and skill in the race. This guy cracks me up. The Anderson in my bones loves the all things competitive in costume. The masses of duckies being tossed into the creek was a little overwhelming and Tickleberry opted out. (I think fear of messing up her carefully designed feather art was a factor.) Ready, Set… GO!!!! Note Drake cheering his duck on from the sidelines! (Please never grow up and think you are too cool for things like this!) Basically they all tumbled down the creek in a big herd. MERMA COMES IN 2ND PLACE!!! (Thanks to her carefully selected lucky tail feathers according to Owner D.) WHOO HOO!!! Today is our 5 year anniversary of life together. I had no idea what I was getting into when I showed up the day after Memorial Day to start full time with Drake (3) and Ivy (3 months.) We spent the day getting completely lost at the zoo. These two have loved me, shaped me and done life more deeply with me than any other humans and I will never be able to express how grateful I am for the gift of caring for them. Happy Anniversary D & I!
